Some of my favorite pieces are the ones with a story behind them — and this cabinet definitely has one.
My parents actually found this piece sitting in someone else’s trash pile, weathered and overlooked, waiting for its second chance. The moment I saw it, I knew it had potential. I’ve always loved the idea of rescuing old furniture and turning it into something beautiful again, especially when the piece has character you simply can’t buy in a store.
At the same time, I had been working on redesigning our bathroom and wanted the space to feel more eclectic, artistic, and collected over time. Instead of purchasing something brand new, I decided to experiment with using AI as part of the creative process. I uploaded photos of the current bathroom into ChatGPT and asked it to help me redesign the space. Along with inspiration photos of boho-style furniture and décor, the AI generated ideas for storage solutions — including incorporating this rescued cabinet into the room.

That single suggestion sparked an entirely new vision.
What began as a forgotten cabinet transformed into a vibrant statement piece filled with rich colors, floral motifs, and hand-painted folk-art inspired details. I wanted the design to feel collected over time — artistic, imperfect, warm, and full of life. The layered jewel tones, distressed finishes, and painted embellishments gave the cabinet an eclectic bohemian feel while still allowing some of its original character to shine through.
What I love most is that this piece doesn’t just function as storage — it tells a story. Every brushstroke and color choice reflects creativity, imagination, and the beauty of seeing potential where others may not. It’s a reminder that design doesn’t always have to come from expensive showrooms or perfectly curated spaces. Sometimes the most meaningful pieces are the ones that have been discarded, rediscovered, and lovingly reimagined.

This project also reminded me that inspiration can come from anywhere — a curbside find, a collection of reference photos, or even a conversation with AI. Creativity today is such an interesting blend of technology and human expression, and I loved using both intuition and digital inspiration to help bring this vision to life.
I’m excited to continue transforming the bathroom into a colorful, eclectic retreat, and this cabinet has become the heart of that vision. It’s proof that beautiful things don’t always start out beautiful — sometimes they just need someone willing to see what they could become.
